Hi Patrick
I personally would feel fine with you broadcasting recordings I have made and
posted. I realize that performance rights are slightly different, and there is
not really any model I am aware of for open source performing rights like there
is for licensing of the work itself. Creative Commons licensing of material
usually deals only with the distribution and modification of copyrighted
content, not its broadcast specifically (though I think this might technically
be distribution). Can you point me in the direction of more information
regarding performing rights for work not registered with ASCAP/BMI/SESAC? Is it
worth somehow automatically registering posted audio with these agencies?
In general for me, accreditation somehow is sufficient for use (as great as an
ASCAP check would be).
I think that everyone who posts their material will have a slightly different
opinion, but I think this is an important topic to which I have given too
little thought considering that I actually want people to feel empowered to
replay my recordings from informal posts.
