Yes, the most ironic thing is that there are even a 24-bit recorders out th=
ere that even do not reach the theoretic dynamic range of the 16 bit format=
...

The reason for these limitations lies, among other details, in the capabili=
ties of the available A/D converter chips. One model that is being used in =
high-end recorders is for instance the AK5385 that limits the dynamic range=
 to 114 dB (http://tinyurl.com/ovrn7w).
