Here's an interesting observation regarding extra noise in the Zoom H4n whe=
n phantom power is used:
"...after about ten minutes of recording, much of the unwanted whistling an=
d noise I associated with the phantom-powered external mics disappeared and=
did not return...[mics were] a pair of MXL 604s, Chinese small-condenser d=
evices."
quote by Mark McPherson in email message to Fran Guidry. The full message =
appears here:

Thanks to Mark and Fran for sharing this observation.
I can't say for sure I listened to the middle of the recordings I made with=
the H4n and phantom power on. When I receive a replacement H4n, I'll liste=
n for noise in the phantom power circuit after recording for at least 10 mi=
nutes.
