Raimund Specht has posted his test results for the PMD661 microphone
input noise. Thanks to TomR, posting on the TapersSection web forum,
for alerting me to this news.

The PMD661 results are very similar to results posted by the PMD671,
Marantz's shoulder-carried, full-featured field recorder. The results
are also similar to those for the Sony PCM-D50. So the PMD661 is in
good company when it comes to mic input noise levels.
If you look at the unweighted test results, rather than the A-Weighted
number, the PMD661 (-124dBu) has a noise floor similar to the Tascam
HD-P2 and Fostex FR-2LE (-125 dBu). The advantage the Tascam and
Fostex enjoy is being able to handle a louder signal before clipping
begins.
The PMD661 offers XLR inputs and 48V phantom power in a very portable
package. It will soon have two competitors: Tascam and Zoom will
release similar models in March.
