Public lands deserve to be respected by users the same way as public libraries - and National Parks especially so. One orv or snowmobile, or even one automobile driver can easily have more presence than one thousand quiet hikers. This is why I prefer to arrive to locations before dusk, and not make a sound beyond bicycle tires on gravel, the hiss of a cook stove, maybe some laughter over lunch and dinner, and an occasional hoot for echoes, until after noon on the day of departure.
