John,

I know exactly what you mean - I started out with a Sony MD plus
phantom power supply plus K2/ME66 and ran into the same issue with
wires everywhere.  I can't comment on either the fostex or edirol as
I ended up buying a oade modded HD-P2, but I've found improvement in
usability to be quite substantial and wouldn't hesitate to recommend
moving to a recored with xlr mic inputs/phantom supplies for that
reason alone.
