In 40 years of audio work, I have used star quad only in one cable,
and almost never experience RFI in balanced mic lines. Star quad is
indicated in high RF areas, but most of them are not in the field but
rather TV staudios, radio stations, and near airports and seaports.
Star quad may have higher capacitance (due to four rather than two
wires in a narrow cable) also and may lose high frequencies in very
long runs...

Star quad is not a bad idea but is it not required. I hope others
don't blast me for this too!

Max, for good cable try Belden or Mogami, not that stuff with the
thermoplastic shield. You need copper braided sheild. Note that the
site you quoted says it is the easiest to build, not the most
effective shield!
Best,
Lou

Me again;
This seems to imply that ANY three wire cable will automatically, via
the anti-phase component, cancel any electrical noise. Is it that the
'common mode noise rejection' is not incorporated in all equipment, or
is there another explanation?
