That's a very reasonable supposition & logically consistent to the name XY.=
Do you have any references to this I could explore?
I'm far from alone in using the term to mean a crossed coincident pair of
directional mics the output of which are loudspeaker feeds. But I tend to g=
o
along with the convention that even though Alan Blumlein invented pretty
much all mic techniques bar spaced omnis, a pair of Fig8 at 90deg is
commonly called a Blumlein pair or Blumlein Stereo.
