In the article the author reports that the dawn chorus has "puzzled biologists" and guesses that the dawn song is to "show off to females." Well, the biologists have puzzled and puzzled until their puzzlers got sore and have come up with much more detail to explain dawn song than just showing off. Here are a few purposes of dawn song I'm familiar with and I'm sure the pro's in the group can add to my list: |
