Yahoo Groups > naturerecordists > Files > Member Files > Mystery creature.mp3 Listening closely dozens of times I just couldn't get beyond my raccoon vs fox perception. Today I played this recording for a number of people at an NPS event and got an ID. Lo and behold, it could very well be a creature that is a raccoon _and_ a fox, or at least a relative of both: Bassariscus astutus, also called a ringtail cat. Here's more on this foxy little Procyonidae: http://www.desertusa.com/mag01/mar/papr/ringt.html http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/information/Bassariscus_ astutus.html - Don |
