Yamaha's new "point and shoot" WAV recorder, the Pocketrak CX, is
expected to be available in August. Yamaha's North American web site
now has information about the Pocketrak CX.

The Yamaha CX is very close to the Olympus LS-10 in size and general
appearance. The CX offers WAV recording up to 16/48, and MP3
recording at several bit rates. The CX reportedly can record for up
to 20 hours on a single AA cell. The CX records to microSD cards, the
sort of memory card used by many cell phones. microSDHC cards are
available with capacity up to 16 GB.
This model was developed by Sanyo, with Yamaha's help. In Japan,
Sanyo is among the largest producers of pocket dictation recorders.
This model is sold in Japan as the Sanyo ICR-PS1000M. Recent pricing
in Japan for this Sanyo model was about $270.
The CX's smaller brother, the Pocketrak 2G, has lots of noise evident
in its preamp. Let's hope that the CX is improved in this respect.
