Just got an Olympus LS-10 this week. $289 brand new on eBay! I have
been too busy to really put it through its paces- but I have to say,
the few recordings I have done with it sound more spacious, and have
more "air" - in a good way - than the Edirol R-09 that I recently,
inadvertently, destroyed. For context, my uses are on-the-go, point-
and-shoot. I almost always use built-in mics. I need something I can
toss in a bag and have with me wherever I go. (Which is probably what
destroyed the Edirol, sadly.)
The LS-10 seems sturdier, too. Don't get me wrong, I loved my Edirol,
but the LS-10 is very sexy. And it has a sound quality that I was
missing in the Edirol recorder. (Mine was an early Edirol R-09, not
the new revamped model, FWIW.)
I have noticed that the peak warning light seems to go off more often
- the "high sensitivity" mode on the LS-10 seems more sensitive than
it was on the Edirol. I peaked it out recording a rain storm at 2 am
the other night.
Anyway, I can chime in on the LS-10. So far, I really like it. Hope
this anecdotal evidence is helpful to some.
