Yup, the NYS 90 goes right through... I have always known about Montezuma? =
because I've driven past it 100 times, but never stopped. I have no idea ho=
w big it is, but those highway sounds probably travel for many miles and th=
at would be annoying!
But, you were right near my neck of the woods. Now that I think about it, I=
think I have Iroquois NWR in a book I have for hiking and natural places..=

Iroquois NWR is not the quietest place (or largest)
around, as the background ambience of my first sample demonstrates. I
can still afford the gas to get there, this year anyway. . Swallow
Hollow on the Knowlesville Rd., and the adjoining Tonawanda WMA
across the road to the east is probably the best for being away from
the more traveled roads, although the entire refuge is surrounded by
farmland.
I've never considered Montezuma NWR for recording, because of the NYS
Thruway running through the middle of it, but I'm sure there are more
spots I have no knowledge of, within a couple hours drive of our
area. I'm all ears if anyone in the central or western NY area knows
of some reasonably quiet public or state lands.
