I can't speak to the CR hydrophones, I own a DPA 8011, and it's a fine micr= ophone. It's very well built, comes with a nice case, seems like it should last for years. I've only used mine for '= effects' recording, although I did drop it over the side in the water in Vancouver, and recorded what I think might= be crabs eating (lots of weird clicking). If you contact me directly, maybe I can send you a couple files = recorded with it. But I've never whales, but I think they're used quite a bit for that as wel= l. Mine has the standard 30 foot cable, and if I was to buy it now, I'd have had them put on a longer cable. It can= 't be changed later, except at great expense I'm told, but they can create custom lengths at time of purchase. I think the woman in Vancouver no longer makes them, when I was looking for= one, I remember coming across info that they weren't in business anymore, I could be wrong. Tim |
