It has a 4GB limit-- you choose the 4GB file size option. Mac OS X
will handle that size. Your audio app might not though,..

If one could figure out a way to autostart the recorder, a 4GB/6 hour
window would be more workable. I can use HiSP mode in HiMD for 7+
hours if I want compression.

I don't miss that part, for sure. I was thrilled when I found 3 hour
DAT tapes vs. 2 hour ones. It was part of learning to behave
nocturnally, and drive the family members nuts.
The bigger drawback of the rig visits might be the frequent
disturbances of the setting. I've noticed that it usually takes
about a half hour for the animals to begin to get back into their
rhythm after a rig visit. There's no comparing those recordings to
those made when I can set-up four hours before dusk and not return
until late the next morning. Some mammals come to investigate the
scent you leave behind; others are likely to avoid the locale
altogether. When I set up for two, all-night takes using automatic
starts/stops and when all other factors are equal, its common to get
much more candid action on the 2nd night-- not to say that the
animals are tricked, just perhaps a little less stressed. When I
visit a rig in the same location 4-5 times a week, animals that fled
the first few days are hanging around by the end of a couple of
weeks. Wood thrushes, for example, now continue singing as I walk
right under them, whereas two weeks ago, they and the rest of the
birds in the hollow would shut-up and fly off as I arrived. Some
folks are skilled natural stalkers and would not make as large of an
impact as I do. Rob D.
