Hi Kevin-
Thanks for the kind offer of your expertise. Here's a quick
over-view of EM23 DIY activities I am aware of.

There is an effort underway on the micbuilders list to design a
low-noise FET circuit to use with the Primo EM23 mic capsule for
operating on PIP. One individual who is making some progress and
would probably appreciate help is. Kim Cascone
<> and Tom Robinson, <> are
also interested in DIY development of these low-noise omni mic
capsules. If you are curious about why there is much interest in
lower-cost, small-profile, low-noise omni-directional mics, explore
the archives of this list: http://tinyurl.com/465bnv

Another, related quest is taking the 2/3" mic capsule and electronics
out of Audio Technica's AT3032's bulky package and placing them into
two, more compact, lighter packages that can be more easily
body-mounted. There is lots of info on this exceptional mic in the
archives: http://tinyurl.com/4od53v

I believe Umashankar has modified the H2 to be fitted with 4
Transound capsules in an Ambisonic/tetrahedral style (surround sound)
rig using the H2's existing FET's. The directional capsules
Umashankar was using at last note do not seem to be as quiet and the
EM23's-- at least when used with the FET ciruit that Klas Strandberg
has realized. Maybe the EM-23 capsules could utilize the H2's FETS as
well? That would be simple to try. Klas has been very helpful and
open about his FET design short of publicizing it which everyone can
fully understand. It was his design using the Primo capsules that
stimulated DIY interest initially to the best of my knowledge. The
EM23 capsules (sans FET of course) are available from Primo in Ft
Worth Texas.

All of the above info and more is on the micbuilders list and is
probably more efficiently discussed there:
