For those interested. I obtained a file from Sound Devices which amongst other things includes details on their serial communications protocols and the command set for sending control "key" signals to the device such as Record, Stop Rewind etc It is now on the members files section named SD7__Prog And Test v2.40.pdf Talk about great service from a supplier ! They always answer you - within 24hrs, fully and competently. You can't ask for more than that. Their serial communications method is quite bullet proof in terms of error checking and checksums and individual packet acknowledgements and might take a while to get working nicely, so I think Rob's suggestion is still the best in terms of getting getting it working in the quickest and easiest. ie - Set the SD7## for automatic record when power is applied to the external power input.
