No so, Scott. The reason that MS was created by Sennheiser in the late 70s was precisely because it solved the issue of a -3dB drop in the phantom center of XY and ORTF stereo fields...an inherent problem with those systems. With MS, the coincidence of the Mid and Side components "fills" the phantom center so that the signal appears to be evenly weighted in acoustic energy RC&L, assuming that the MS data has been decoded properly when mixed.
