The 822 is a good beginner's mic, but its self-noise is high enough (24dB) that I don't know if a quieter preamp will give you any improvement. A preamp could give you a higher level signal, for sure, but I suspect it would have mic hiss at the same level if you just raised the file's level in your workstation.
