Ideally, this device should not change the quality of the signal. It just boosts the level of the signal produced by the mic from that appropriate for a recorder's microphone input to the level needed for a line level input. Changing the signal to line level will help when using a recorder that doesn't have a mic input (like the Sony HiMD MZ-NH600) or a recorder that has a line level input that sounds better than the mic level input (like the Zoom H2). I don't think there's much difference in quality between the iRivier iHP line and mic inputs, so no advantage here. I'm suspicious that such an inexpensive gadget might add extra noise to the mic signal. But it won't cost much to find out. --oryoki |
