Thanks for the reply Aaron.  I'm new to this as you might have guessed.   I 
want to improve 
the 
performance of a directional mic so that recording birdsong is easier.  I 
currently have a 
cheap camcorder mic for the purpose and am trying to find a way to improve 
things 
without having to find the cash for something like a Sennheiser MKE300.
