Notes: (a) this is not a preamp, it's just a plug-in power module, running on very small batteries. (b) this is MONO, not stereo. Are you having problems with electret mics that lead you to believe they're underpowered by the iRiiver? If you do want a powering module, you might look for one that uses AA batteries -- easier to find, longer life, and less fiddly to replace in the field, Among others the Sound Professionals make a wide range which are highly customizable with other features (e.g. switchable bass rolloff, genuine preamplification). They are considerably more expensive though (usually in the US$50 range and up).
