I hope that an optimal format for publishing bird vocalizations would call = for self- documenting recordings. That is, the data for each file should be contained= within the file itself. Some recent publications have done this, and just about all the fil= es on www.xeno- canto.org have the data for each recording written onto the mp3 fields of t= hat recording, so that it becomes visible inside a program like iTunes. I think that's an imp= ortant step forward. Optimality might also call for having only one species per CD track. Thanks, John, for the many publications you have made available to us.
