I once had to send my 744T in to Sound Devices for some adjustments.
When they returned it (via FedEx) I had them send the package as
signature required, and even included a note on the package to call me
since I was expecting to be a few blocks away at delivery time.
But I also took the precaution of monitoring the tracking online.
Suddenly, I saw it marked as delivered: "Signature on file". I
scrambled for home, and found it in plain view on my front porch. Since
well over a thousand cars pass in front of my house daily, I was a bit
upset.
Regardless of the carrier, I have found that notices such as "Signature
Required" and "Fragile" have little effect on actual handling.
"Insured" generally does a bit better.
