I am planning a hiking trip in the rainforest and would like to record birdsongs, waterfalls, wind in trees, etc. I presently own a Sony MZ-R700, but no mic or other gear. Would someone with field experience in this area kindly provide a brief "checklist" of the most cost-effective and reliable methodology for achieving results that would suit a serious amateur? IOW choice of microphone (store-bought or homemade), record settings and procedure, and a better featured model MD recorder, if advisable. I have tried to find some of this information online, but it is scattered and a bit more than I can assimilate as a beginner. Of course, I am willing to practice technique before my trip, but a solid starting point would be appreciated. Thank you for any advise on the current thinking for this type of equipment.
