According to the SD722 page:
> Gain: (input dBu to -20 dBFS)
> mic (normal gain mode): 25 to 70 dB;
> mic (low gain mode): 10 to 55 dB;
> line: -6 to 18 dB, 0.1 dB increments

For normal gain mode (or high if you prefer) mic sensitivity is  
-50dBu input for 0dBFS. With current firmware this drops to -47.4dBu  
for 0dBFS.
SD do talk about 70/67.4dB gain _range_ but that is the gain control  
range from maximum attention to maximum gain not an overall gain figure.

The bottom line is that the SD 7 series have respectable gain at  
+50dB or +47.4dB depending on firmware revision.

Watching Rob Danielson's "sub $1000 recorder" test, and taking note  
of the correction figures confirms that this is the case.
