Why Yahoo Groups?

Subject: Why Yahoo Groups?

As a matter of curiosity, is there a reason why this forum is run as a Yaho=
o Group instead of a regular (password protected if desired) forum with, sa=
y, Simple Machines software?

Maybe I'm in a minority of one, but Yahoo Groups strikes me as based on out=
moded software that is quite out of step with how people use the internet t=
hese days, and with the emergence of devices, such as Blackberries, that pr=
ovide mobile access.

And unless I am missing something, following discussions/threads is kind of=
unnecessarily complicated/cumbersome, not to mention frustrating/annoying.

Of course, maybe people like the forum this way. I'm just asking.

Cheers
