Since the current version already has phantom power on the 1/4 jacks,
I doubt they'll upgrade to XLR, since it's fairly easy to get a 1/4
to XLR cable. I would suspect you're right that they increase the
phantom power to full and stable 48v, but my guess will be that the
case is basically the same. Dramatically increasing it's size will
defeat it's purpose, a recorder small enough to put in your pocket.
I would hope mostly for decent metering, as the metering on the 2496
is pretty useless.
