Changes include a field-replaceable battery (probably AA cells) and 48V phantom power. The addition of 48V phantom power makes me think the second generation Microtrack will have XLR or mini-XLR microphone inputs in place of the 7mm phone plug inputs on the current model. Adding AA cells and XLR inputs would make the new Microtrack considerably larger than the current design. Maybe the larger size will enable M-Audio to add larger control knobs and switches. These changes will make the new Microtrack competitive with the Marantz PMD660 and Fostex FR-2LE as a "semi-pro" recorder for ENG. The new model is rumored to be available in early September, not August as I reported earlier (group message 29608). --oryoki |
