just few notes about the Korg MR-1000 you mention in your email:

besides long (endless!!) discussions about DSD quality vs standard
PCM, I note three problems with this unit:
1 - mic preamplifiers are noisy like a M-Audio MicroTrack
2 - when you play DSD directly to analog out you get a lot of high
frequency noise above 50 kHz unless you set the sharpest low-pass
filter (but this negates the claimed advantages of the high DSD
bandwidth). Of course you don't hear that hiss, but your delicate
tweeters can suffer if you pump up the volume too much (maybe you dog
or your bats will not be happy...)
3 - related to 2 - when you convert to PCM (or record directly to
PCM), maybe at 192 kHz to get all DSD details, your file will be
contaminated by the same high frequency hiss I mentioned at point 2.
When editing files you'll never see a clean thin horizontal line
between bird notes: you'll see there the high frequency noise!!
Again, when converting with AudioGate you'll be able to add some low
pass filtering ... but again this will reduce the supposed advantages
of recording at high rates (for example for recording bats...).
For those interested in recording ultrasounds, bats for example, this
technology seems promising.... unfortunately the noise I mention
reduces the available dynamic range above 50 kHz to about 60-70 dB.

To be accurate, I'm talking about recording DSD at 5.6MHz; recording
at 2.8MHz moves the high frequency noise at lower frequencies (>
25-30kHz) as mentioned some time ago for the Korg MR-1.
