There are 2 heart valves - the bicuspid (left) and the tricuspid (right), each having it's own (anatomical) surface marking on the chest wall, confirm the exact position with the cardiologist, where it is heard best; Check whether it's a stenotic (due to narrowing) murmur or a regurgitation (due to incompetence) murmur. Certain 'murmurs' are well conducted to the carotid arteries in the neck. Shave the chest in those areas, if it's hairy and holding one's breath (check on the advisibility) while recording will avoid the respiratory sounds.
