<<These popping noises permate these recent Grand Canyon recordings.
They occur about
once every two or three minutes. I can't seem to edit them out with
Logic's Sample editor.
Could I have bungled the transfer of the 16 bit recording to the 24
bit computer file?>>
Probably not if it was a matter of simply transferring files. If it
was a real time digital playback via SPDIF or AES/EBU into your DAW
the clicks may have been a result of a wordclock mismatch between the
two devices.
<<Could it have been some sort of short, or static, in my recording
system?>>
Was it very humid on site? Extreme humidity can cause static
discharges between the front & backplate of a condenser mic.
<<Quite a mystery. I have not had this problem before. I wonder if
others have it too.>>
I ran into the humidity problem when recording in a coastal rain
forest in Costa Rica. This caused continual popping in a pair of AKG
C451s, ruining the first day's recordings. That problem was solved by
substituting an electret mic.
