A used Hi-MD deck and PIP omni- binaural mics?  In the city, on that
budget,..maybe WL-183's,.. or save $ and build some from WM61's or
EM-158's?  Most folks who are getting started don't want to mess with
larger mic rigs and phantom powering. This being the case, maybe its
better they start off with cheaper mics and experiment and then take
a $400+ or more dive into mics later.

In this buy in stages approach makes sense to them, the additional
$300 for an FR2LE  up-front is a good investment.

It was ear-opening for me how close in performance all the electrets
except the EMKS-23 sounded to me.
