Thanks for the advice from all who answered my plea for help. The current version of QUicktime was playing only the first 3 seconds of any audion file for me. I have reverted to an old version of Quicktime (6.5.2.10). This old Quicktime seems to work just fine, and it is a much smaller program than the current version. Sometimes less is more. Thanks again.
