Compression is a big topic: My rule is record the best you can. I consider = MP3 to be a distribution format, not a recording format. 16 vs. 24: having said record the best you can know that only a very few re= corders have self noise low enough to take advantage of 24 bit recording. A= lso getting the recording level right is by far more important. Wear your h= eadphones in the field. Compression of 16 bit vs. 24 bit. If there is processing to be done I alway= s go from 16 to 24. Dither when your applying filters is not a bad thing. T= hen I compress from that file. If there's no intermediate processing, then = I don't know how much difference it will make. |
