I think the best Compactflash adapter for a laptop with a PC Card slot
is a 32-bit Cardbus model. The Delkin Cardbus 32 Compactflash reader
is compatible with both Type 1 and Type 2 Compactflash cards. So even
a thick Microdrive will fit.

According to Rob Galbraith's tests of flash cards and card readers
(see http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-8462)
there are several USB 2.0 Compactflash readers that have higher date
transfer speeds than the Delkin reader. They do have the disadvantge
of being external to the laptop, attached by a USB cable. But if
speed is most important, consider a USB model like the SanDisk
ImageMate CF or SanDisk Extreme USB 2.0.

The fastest Compactflash readers connect using Firewire 800 instead of
USB. If you have a Mac or a PC with Firewire interface, then the
SanDisk Extreme FireWire CF looks to be a good choice.
