If you consider a megabyte to be 1 million bytes,
then recording stereo at 16/44.1 requires 635 megabytes.
So an 8 gigabyte compactflash card can hold almost
13 hours of 16/44.1 recordings. You'd need two such
cards to cover a 24 hour period.
Recording at 24/48, you'll need three cards for 24 hours
of stereo.
Less well-known brands of Compactflash cost around $100
for an 8GB card. Names include Transcend, Ridata, and
A-Data. Better-known brands like Lexar, Kingston and
Sandisk cost close to $200 for an 8GB card. Lots of
people use the less expensive cards with no problems.
16GB cards are now available on the market, but they
cost considerably more. Kingston sells a 16GB model for
$550 per card. It might be worth it because you'd only
have to visit the recorder once a day to change the card.
And you'll need a car battery to provide enough
power to run a recorder for so long a period.
