It is tempting to experiment with if one already has the audio card,
extra amp and speakers. One can definitely get four, good, matched
electret mics for considerably less than $1000. The decoding VST
plug is free: http://mcgriffy.com/audio/ambisonic/vvmicvst/ Perhaps
use two,"wild" running MD's/Hi-MD's and a tiny clicker/slate right
in the middle of the mic array? Obviously-- not sample accurate 4
channel recorder, but possibly close enough for one to get some
interesting results from the software? Rob D.
