Having not looked at the Korg info yet, I wonder if this is equivalent to the DSD format that Sony developed for SACD (super audio CD)? Another not widely used (proprietary?) Sony format, this one was inteded to be the next step beyond CD and to compete with DVD-A. By many audiophile accounts SACD is the "best-sounding digital format" ever, better than 24/192. Early accounts by die-hard analog heads were largely of the grudgingly-this-sounds-like-the-best-of-both-worlds A coworker of mine invested in some proposterously expensive 8-channel DSD recorder for location sound recording (NOT field recording, it's luggable and runs on AC) and has just begin to play with it. No reports yet If it is DSD I'd be very curious to hear it, though without the ability to edit/author/burn/listen to SACD... hrumph. best, aaa -- quietamerican.org oneminutevacation.org 83% happy 9% disgusted 6% fearful 2% angry |
