The Core-Sound PDA recording kit is expensive, and its multiple
components make it cumbersome to handle and power in the field.

The Core-Sound PDA kit has one special attribute: Gordon Gidluck's
Live2496 software. Live2496 allows you to schedule unattended
recordings on a very flexible schedule.

For example, let's say you want to record the dawn chorus every day
for a week. Other software lets you schedule a start time for
recording each day. But they don't take into consideration that the
time of sunrise changes a little each day. Live2496 lets you schedule
an exact start and stop time for each recording.

Another example: Say you discover a frog species vocalizes at dusk
(say, 8pm), and again at 2am. You can schedule the Live2496 software
to wait until 8pm, record for 15 minutes, then wait to 2am, and then
record another 15 minutes. You can set up the recorder and mic in the
afternoon, then return the following morning to collect your recordings.

For field biologists and researchers, the Core-Sound PDA recorder
offers definite advantages.
