There was a thread a little while ago about a 'cheap' figure of 8 microphone. Well how about 'making one', after all what is a figure of 8? It's two omni's back-to-back wired together out of phase. So why not take two Shure WL 183's mount them back-to-back wire them to the same plug to combine both their signals but phase reverse the right-hand facing microphone this will give you your S signal, A minus B. Then mount that on top of a shotgun microphone with a suitable furry wind gag and you could have a form of stereo. The shotgun giving the focus while the two Shure WL 183's give the stereo information. As the mic's are pip powered it might need a bit of jiggery-pokery to do it. I would try it but the Shure WL 183's are =A399 ($178) each over here in the UK, while I think they are more like that a pair in the US. Perhaps I should see if I could get them delivered to the UK for that price? It's a thought. Phil |
