I remember someone describing it as a bunch of tubes that are a
expressway for wind to get at the mic. They are really pop screens
rather than windscreens. They won't stop much wind by themselves, if
any. No value for nature recording if used alone.

They can be used as another layer in a wind protection system and have
some value. Inside a zeppelin, covered with fur, etc.
