Thanks to all who replied to this request for suggestions. I think I am able now to see what the possibilities are. Between Soundtrack Pro and Audacity (which I already have access to), and the suite of Bias products, I think I have found what I need without breaking the bank. My faith in the collective wisdom of the group is vindicated.
