i don=B4t know sound forge and adobe audition exactly as i=B4m on mac,
but i think they are just sample editors?
peak and all the other stuff had been allready mentioned by tim.
there is one professional looking sample editor which is not that known:
"wave editor" (http://audiofile-engineering.com/)

there is one more, but i forgot the name. (its not spark!:-)). when i
remember, i will write it.

or if you want something cheaper and more simple, go with
Amadeus2 (www.hairersoft.com)
or
Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)
or
Cacophony (www.bannister.org/software)
or
Sound Studio (www.felttip.com)

these are all shareware, except audacity (thats freeware), and i can
=B4t really tell if they are great, because i don=B4t have used them
heavily...

all the best!
