I can't really say much about last year compared to this year because I
didn't record in the same areas this year. But as a general trend, voice
density and creature diversity decreases every year, especially migrating
birds. It is really scary to hear what some have been noticing this year. I
noticed wildlife seems to be grouping in smaller areas and not spread out
like they used to be. Maybe the wildlife moved somewhere different than you
are used to, further away from the encroachment of rural sprawl, logging an=

oil developments. Wildlife does have cycles of abundance so it is hard to
say if one year may be a trend or not. There are plenty of birds around. I
was in upper Michigan, Northern Minnesota, and North Dakota and I have neve=
r
seen or heard so many birds. Of course, it was my first time there so I
can't say if there was a reduction. I didn't notice much reduction around
where I live. In fact, the field behind my back yard was very plentiful wit=
h
nesting birds this year-- twice as many Yellow Warblers than last year.
