Far South-West of Western Australia near Northcliffe. There is a pretty
large coastal wilderness zone 'down here'. Most of it is called
D'Entrecasteaux National Park. The property we have just acquired
borders onto part of that national park. It is a 100 Acre multiple
occupancy shared by 8 owners. It is about 1/2 forest and 1/2 coastal
plain. 1/2 of each of those halves is swamp this time of year so lots
of frogs.

That's what surprised me. It isn't that close to the ocean (One reason
I was surprised by the directionality of the sound). I'll have to check
the map but it must be at least 15km. For a crow. It is about 40
minutes drive because there is no direct route.

Working on it...

this area is thoroughly unpopulated but that generally means farmers...

No - not to get away from the ocean noise. So I will go into
D'Entrecasteaux National Park. Because I need the recordings pretty
quick I will skip the hiking trip for now. Instead I am planning a late
at night drive (have to drive very slowly at night because there's so
many kangaroos out) then a short walk to set up on the edge of a forest
patch for the very early morning. I'll have to make some daytime
reconnaisance to measure distances though because I won't be able to see
the forest at night...

If I'm really lucky I'll find some black cockatoos. These have a
dstinctive cry and are a must have for one of the audio tours I am
working on. Unfortunately it is the wrong time of year to find them in
there reliable hang-outs...

thanks for your interest Volker.
