This is a huge favour I'm asking again for the birds and animals of the
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. If you are offended by this request please
delete this e-mail now.

Next week I go back to my beloved Arctic refuge for 14 days on a scientific
study with Bernie Krause (who is the team leader and organizer
extraordinaire) Kevin Colver and Bob Moore, we will be taking acoustic data
from all parts of the Arctic national wildlife refuge.
If we do not act to save this wonderful place it may be the last time this
will happen! We will be recording on the 1002 and including Caribou pass an=
d
the Brooks Range. We will have a team of videographers to document
everything too.

Our objectives are to collect the widest possible variety of natural sound
from four different sites during the spring choruses (approx. 31st May - 13
June 2006) From the audio media collected we will be able to show (1)
organism presence and abundance, (2) acoustic characteristics of the
habitats and landscapes within which the sounds were collected, and (3) hav=
e
a baseline collection against which to measure the impact of human noise
and climate change within those sites. From these audio media, we will be
able to integrate the acoustic data with quantified land-cover satellite
information using remote sensing imagery to look at the influence of
acoustic and land-cover characteristics on the presence and abundance of
organisms within the four land types.

When we get back I hope to share with you some snippets of the wonderful
bird sounds that I have already recorded from last years visit. Most of the=
m
were previously unheard of because of the behavior from their breeding
grounds. Many shorebirds become songbirds on the refuge....

I have a CD in a wonderful book to be released in June that also has many
great sounds from and around the coastal plain.

All I ask is that you write to your local representative to stop this lates=
t
attack...... Just a few minutes out of your day......

TAKE ACTION NOW: Use our toll-free number: 1-800-841-7299 to call your
Representative. You will be asked for your zip code and then directly
connected to your Representative's office.

When you call you will either speak to a staff member or be forwarded to
voice mail. Either way, you'll want to make a few key points:
