Minidisc.org has a copy of the manual for the new Sony MZ-RH1:
http://www.minidisc.org/manuals/sony/Sony_MZ-RH1_user_manual.pdf
The manual states the internal Li-Ion battery will record uncompressed
WAV files for about 6 hours. (Each Hi-MD disc holds up to 94 minutes
of stereo WAV files, so 6 hours = 4 discs.)
There is no option for a "sidecar" AA battery case, but the RH1 will
recharge via a USB connection. So it should be possible to use a 5V
DC external battery pack. Or you could just replace the Li-Ion
"gumstick" battery with a freshly charged one.
The manual also confirms that in USA a "pro" version of the RH1 called
the MZ-M200 will be sold. This model will come with extra software to
support the Macintosh, and will include an inexpensive Sony microphone.
The RH1 is not available in USA or Europe yet. A couple of USA web
sites are taking orders, price $300.
