Hi Julian.

XY is a coincident positioning where one (in my case studio) mic is
vertical, the other is upside down directly above it so the diaphragms are=

aligned vertically, then they are rotated so one cardioid looks to the left=

the other to the right.

AB had both mics looking directly forward, but they are spaced some distanc=
e
apart, on the same horizontal line. This is a non-coincident arrangement, s=
o
there are definite time-of-arrival differences compared to coincident
arrangements.

Actually, I have never tried any other arrangement that those I've listed. =
I
have two new variable pattern mics (Rode NT2000) which let me dial in
anything from omni to cardioid to figure-8, and I used that variety to test=

many patterns with the same mics in order to remove one of the major
variables in pattern testing--the "coloration" of the mics themselves.
