I made an approximation out of a sheet of polypropylene (if I remember
correctly) ... 1/10 inch dense, translucent plastic. And I glued two
cloth-covered rubber foam mouse pads with the cloth out and never bothered
to put fake-fur over that:

I used a broken mic clip with shims to hold the center plastic,
but it's pretty overbalanced and doesn't adjust vertically
very far. Some of the live music photos in that directory
and video in ../movies show it in action.
